Install with an AI agent

Let an AI coding agent do the installation for you, on the server, with one command. It follows NuRoute's own agent instructions:

  1. checks your domain points at the server and the server is big enough;
  2. installs Docker if it is missing (after asking you);
  3. runs the installer and waits for it (5 to 15 minutes);
  4. checks every service is running and HTTPS works;
  5. tells you how to activate NuRoute in the browser.

The agent asks before every command that changes your server. It never needs your licence key, provider keys or passwords: you enter those in the browser afterwards.

Before you start

  • A server that meets the requirements, and your domain's DNS A record pointing at it (for example nuroute.acme.com).
  • An account for one of the agents below.

Log in to the server over SSH as the user that will run NuRoute (not root), then pick your agent.

Run it

Replace nuroute.acme.com with your domain.

Install Claude Code and sign in (it prints a link to open in your browser):

curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
claude

Then, from your home folder:

claude "Install NuRoute self-hosted on this server for the domain nuroute.acme.com. Follow https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NuRoute-ai/nuroute-selfhosted/main/AGENTS.md step by step."

When the agent is done, continue with Activate NuRoute in your browser.

Later: upgrades, backups and support

The installed folder, ~/nuroute, contains the same instructions (AGENTS.md; Claude Code reads them through CLAUDE.md). Start your agent in that folder and ask, for example:

  • "Upgrade NuRoute to 1.1.0." (it reads the release notes, backs up and upgrades)
  • "Make a backup."
  • "Give me a password reset link for jane@acme.com."
  • "Make a support bundle for NuRoute support."

What to watch

  • Read each command before you approve it, especially anything with sudo.
  • The agent must not show you .env. It holds your encryption keys; the instructions forbid printing it. Back it up yourself, as Backups and upgrades describes.
  • If the agent reports an error, the same message is explained on Troubleshooting.
